Best Way to Sharpen Traditional Cut-on-Contact Broadheads

In this video I’m showing you how I sharpen traditional bow hunting broadheads to get a true razor sharp edge using some very simple tools. You do not need an expensive sharpening system to get your broadheads sharp enough to hunt with. I’ll show you how to sharpen both two blade and three blade double bevel broadheads using a mill bastard file, wet stones, sandpaper and even a simple piece of cardboard for stropping. I’ll also show you how I sharpen a straight edge broadhead differently from a convex edge broadhead. One of the most important things I want to stress is that your broadheads need to be razor sharp before you take them hunting. A sharp broadhead can give you better penetration, a better blood trail and a better chance of recovering your animal quickly. I’ll walk through how to establish a burr, maintain the proper edge, work through different grits and finish the edge until the broadhead will shave hair. I’ll also demonstrate the technique I use when sharpening with a file and explain why I prefer this simple traditional method.
