Rod Laver versus Roy Emerson 1962 Roland Garros Final

1962 was a peak year in Rod Laver's amateur career. After that, he signed on to the Jack Kramer professional tour and improved his game markedly by playing against Lew Hoad, Ken Rosewall, and Pancho Gonzales. Eventually, in 1965, he was ranked #1 in the world of tennis and kept atop the game throughout the decade, culminating in his second calendar Grand Slam in 1969, a feat that no other tennis player has ever accomplished. Here his opponent is Roy Emerson. Emerson went on to accumulate a record 12 major singles titles, a record that stood until Pete Sampras broke it on the way to collecting 14 singles titles. Emmerson also won a total of 28 major titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. He is the only male player to have won a career Grand Slam in both singles and doubles. He is one of four who completed a double career Grand Slam, together with Rod Laver, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal. All of Emerson's singles and doubles major titles came before the 1968 Open Era of tennis. During the Open Era, he won 20 doubles titles, all of them partnered with Rod Laver except for one when he was partnered with Stan Smith.
