When his mother married the son of a Mughal emperor, Daagh began living in the Red Fort, surrounded by luxury and privilege. As a child, he tried to fill the painful memories of his early life with the colourful world around him. But there’s a larger truth to Daagh’s story: his work gave Urdu poetry a new language, a new sensibility, and a new world. Why did the British government kill Daagh Dehlvi’s father?
