Our travels this year took us North to a city that is an absolute gem Helsinki, Finland. Helsinki is a small capitol city in comparison to many European capitols. But, don't let that fool you. Helsinki is lively with many exciting activities.
We started at the center of the action, at Market Square or, in Finnish, Kauppatori. Here you can taste delicious Finnish foods like fresh "new" potatoes, Salmon (Lohi), Karelian pies (Karjalan piirakka) and so much more.
It is adjacent to the South Harbor (Etelasatama) where you can opt for a real adventure and jump on a boat and tour the Gulf of Finland, exploring the various islands and inlets.
We stayed in two different hotels during our stay, the Indigo Boutique Hotel and the Radison by the Sea. Both, fantastic properties and clean! Finland is very clean and very safe.
We visited in June. Helsinki as well as all of Finland "awakens" in the Summer because of the lack of darkness. As for Helsinki, about 450 miles south of the Arctic Circle, you're not able to see the Midnight Sun directly. But, as you see in our video, you experience "bright twilight". A magical time when the city sleeps, but not for long. There is approximately three hours between formal sunset and sunrise.
If you love travel, we recommend you add Helsinki to your travel "bucket list". #helsinki #finland #suomi #visithelsinki #finlandtravel #europetravel
