Nashville Birder - Common Nighthawks

Nighthawk Feeding Frenzy in Nashville! On Sept 5, 2026, during fall migration of the Common Nighthawks across the southern US, I encountered HUNDREDS of them feasting on insects over a field of mostly native grasses and forbs in my local park. It was a once-in-a-lifetime birding experience, and was only made possible by a decision to NOT mow this field in the fall. Not only did the sea of life here entice this migrating flock of migrates to feed, but it is providing shelter and nourishment to butterflies, dragonflies, Eastern Meadowlarks, many species of sparrow, and other wildlife.
