God put a plant in your kitchen cabinet that shows up in your bloodstream when you do nothing but smell it — and the research says something the supplement industry won't: the small amount helped, the big amount made people worse. Today we're talking about rosemary for the brain.
WHAT'S IN THIS VIDEO:
🌿 Why the botanical name matters — Rosmarinus officinalis / Salvia rosmarinus — and how "rosemary" on a label can be something else entirely
🧠 The four compounds that do the work: 1,8-cineole, alpha-pinene, carnosic acid, and rosmarinic acid
👃 The study where people simply smelled rosemary — and cineole showed up in their blood in under 10 minutes, tracking with better, faster thinking
⚠️ The dose study that changed how I use it: a cooking amount improved memory — eight times that amount made it worse than a sugar pill
📖 How I actually use rosemary for focus, daily, and as a tea — plus who should skip medicinal amounts
THE HEART OF IT:
More is not better. With rosemary, more is worse — and the amount that worked in the study is the amount you'd put on your chicken. This is why I teach dosing, and why I teach the botanical name.
A FEW SAFETY NOTES:
Cooking with rosemary is safe for everyone. Medicinal amounts are a different conversation — skip medicinal amounts in pregnancy and nursing, and if you have gallstones, a blocked bile duct, or liver disease (rosemary moves bile). Never swallow essential oil or put it in water — essential oil belongs in a diffuser or diluted on skin. If you take a prescription for memory or dementia, talk to your prescriber before adding anything that works on the same enzyme.
THE RESEARCH (for those who want to read it themselves):
• Rosemary aroma → cineole in the blood, tracking with cognitive performance — Moss & Oliver, plasma 1,8-cineole study: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles...
• The dose study (750 mg helped, 6,000 mg impaired) — Pengelly et al., 28 older adults, mean age 75: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21877...
• Carnosic acid and brain-cell protection (animal and cell research) — Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation review: https://www.alzdiscovery.org/uploads/...
Educational only — not medical advice. Always identify plants with 100% certainty and talk to your provider before using herbs medicinally.
God put medicine in creation before we ever thought to look for it — and I'm here to help you see it.
