FORGIVENESS: THE HEART OF CHRISTIAN LIVING

TODAY’S SUNDAY READINGS — 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time Today’s readings place forgiveness and mercy at the centre of our Christian life. The First Reading from Sirach 27:30–28:7 reminds us to let go of anger, resentment and revenge. We cannot ask God to forgive our sins while deliberately holding on to unforgiveness toward others. The Second Reading from Romans 14:7–9 reminds us that whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. Our lives should therefore be lived for Christ and not merely for ourselves. In the Gospel, Matthew 18:21–35, Peter asks Jesus how many times he should forgive someone who sins against him. Jesus teaches that forgiveness should not be limited by a number. Through the parable of the unforgiving servant, He reminds us that because God has shown us great mercy, we must also extend that mercy to others. 🙏🏽 Today, let us examine our hearts: Is there someone we need to forgive?
