Národní, formerly Národní třída, is one of the critical avenues in Prague, the Czech Republic. It is located at the boundary between Town and Old Town, in the western centre. This avenue connects the Legion Bridge with Jungmannovo náměstí. In medieval times, there were fortification walls. On Friday, 17 November 1989, riot police violently suppressed a peaceful student demonstration, which is thought of as the initiation of the Velvet Revolution. Národní třída continued to be an eventful locale during the rest of the revolution.

Slavonic Island (Slovanský ostrov)
This island, the only one on the Vltava River with significant landscaping, is dominated by the spectacular neo-Renaissance Žofín Palace - a traditional venue for balls and concerts, where Ferenc Liszt and Hector Berlioz played shows, and in 1863 Richard Wagner conducted a concert here. There are several places to rent rowboats and pedal boats, a miniature train for children, a replica of the historic "parovoz," and a well-loved playground.
