I Had No Business Camping in That Tent… | Last Minute Tanhill Adventure

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you don’t really plan… This was a last-minute decision to ride up to Tanhill and camp for the night. No big plans, no fancy campsite — just the bike, a tiny one-man tent and the hope that the weather would behave itself! The problem? This was the same little tent that leaked the last time I used it… 😬 And, as luck would have it, I arrived at Tanhill just in time for the rain. Getting the tent pitched was a properly wet affair, and by the time I finally crawled inside I was absolutely soaked. Thankfully, the weather gods gave me a break overnight, and what could have been a miserable night turned into a brilliant evening. I met loads of great people around the campsite, had a few beers, plenty of laughs and generally enjoyed that brilliant atmosphere you only seem to get when a bunch of like-minded people end up camping together. I also bumped into my mate Chris, who regular viewers might recognise from my Himalaya series. Chris had driven up this time rather than riding, but he was camping in his brand-new Wingman Toucan tent — so naturally there was a bit of tent envy going on! A wet setup, a questionable tent, good mates, cold beers and some seriously beautiful Yorkshire scenery. Would I do it again? Absolutely.
