📖 L'HISTOIRE (Français)
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

📖 THE STORY (English)
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Rose is nineteen and knows every row of vines around Saint-Émilion. On the first day of the 1914 harvest, a young man walks out of the Landes forest: Léon, a pine-resin tapper's son, come to help bring in the grapes. Between two rows of vines he hands her a basket of grapes. Their hands touch, and his smile keeps her heart forever.
They run through the tall pines to the old oak, where the forest meets the vineyards. Léon carves a heart and their two names into the bark. In the candlelit cellar they hide a bottle of the 1914 vintage: "We'll drink it when I come home." That night the whole village dances in the square, under the lanterns, to the sound of the accordion.
At dawn the train whistles at the station. Léon leaves with the other soldiers, and Rose waves her white handkerchief until the smoke disappears. "Don't look back." The grape pickers hum softly: the vines will wait for you.
Four harvests pass without him. Then, in the autumn of 1918, a man in a faded horizon-blue army coat walks down the road through the pines, a bag over his shoulder. Rose knows him from far away and runs to him. Under the old oak the grape pickers raise their hats, and the 1914 bottle is opened at last.
That night, under the full moon, they walk hand in hand through the vines of Saint-Émilion.
"Pour me a glass of this wine… I'm here, my love."
