You've been told you have Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL), but your consultant says you don't need treatment yet. How does that make sense?
One of the strangest things about CLL is that some people can live with the condition for years without needing treatment. Instead, they're monitored through an approach often called *watch and wait* or **active monitoring**.
In this video, I explore what watch and wait means, why doctors don't always start treatment immediately and what it's like psychologically to know you have leukaemia but aren't receiving treatment.
I also reflect on my own CLL journey, moving towards treatment with zanubrutinib, and how my understanding of the condition has changed.
I'll be talking about:
Why CLL doesn't always require immediate treatment.
What happens during active monitoring.
The uncertainty of waiting for blood tests and appointments.
What can lead to treatment being started.
What I wish I'd understood earlier.
This is my personal experience, not medical advice. Treatment decisions depend on your individual CLL and should be discussed with your specialist team.
*If you're living with CLL, are you currently on watch and wait? How do you feel about it?*
