I Thought This Cave Was Right Off the Road… I Was Wrong

This adventure wasn't planned at all. After finishing my hike to Lone Pine Arch, I was looking at the map and noticed what appeared to be a cave not far off the road. I figured I'd take a quick detour and see if I could find it. Turns out, the road on the map was only the beginning. What I expected to be a quick drive turned into a legitimate Southern Utah 4x4 trail, with a few sections that had me wondering whether I'd gotten my Jeep into something I wasn't going to get back out of. Eventually I made it to the area where the cave was supposed to be and spent about an hour hiking around trying to find a way to it. I think I eventually spotted it high in the cliff, but after attempting to climb toward it, I realized getting there wasn't going to happen. So I never actually made it into the cave. But somehow, going looking for it turned into a better adventure than finding it probably would have been. This was completely unexpected—and exactly the kind of thing I hope to keep finding.
