Beneath this off-grid cabin lies a hidden concrete cellar designed to survive brutal mountain winters. Building it meant battling fierce thunderstorms and manually splitting massive boulders in the freezing cold. The project demanded true traditional craftsmanship. To protect the roof gables, the builder used the ancient Yakisugi method, charring the timber with fire to prevent rot. Below ground, he hand-mixed concrete for a reinforced slab and built block walls. Above, he shaped seamless pine floorboards and carved heavy structural notches using only a traditional hand axe. The grueling labor pays off as deep winter arrives. Beneath a custom wooden hatch, the new cellar is completely stocked with the season's harvest of preserved vegetables and jams. If you enjoy off-grid building, traditional woodworking, and wilderness survival, this build is sure to inspire you. ⏱️ Chapters: 00:00 Winter Roof & Camp 04:30 Yakisugi Charred Gables 06:15 Splitting Crawlspace Rock 08:40 Roof Completion & Camp Cooking 10:36 Concrete Block Foundation 14:16 Storm & Slab Pour 16:11 Foundation Extension 18:26 Foraging & Cabin Sealing 20:16 Floor Installation 24:46 Cave Camp & Cellar Hatch 28:57 Heavy Timber Joinery 33:47 Charred Furniture & Shelves 37:42 The Payoff: Winter Feast 🎬 Original video by Erik Grankvist:    / @erikgrankvist
