ABC Rage Guest Programmer - Cat Power - 27th September 2003

All guest segments from the reply. Original description from Rage website: This week’s Vault Guest Programmer can best be described in their own terms, ‘The Greatest’. The project of US singer-songwriter Chan Marshall, Cat Power has become synonymous for her intimate tracks that hook you with an emotional left-right gut-punch. Across a multi decade career, Cat Power has spawned an almost cult-like following for both fully reimaging timeless classics like The Rolling Stones’ ‘(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction’ , while also releasing critically acclaimed indie albums like the aforementioned 2006 hit ‘The Greatest’. Recently, the video for the 1998 track Cross Bones Style has gained another life online and ushered in a new wave of younger Cat Power fans invested in the dreamlike quality of the sound and visuals of the haunting track. It’s also a favourite among former rage guest programmers like DIIV and HAAi who are also equally obsessed with the simple but poignant clip. Later this year, Chan will return to Australia for a run of shows to celebrate 20 years since the release of ‘The Greatest’, but for now we’re turning the clock back even further to 2003 when the singer-songwriter joined us for a night of what Cat Power reckons is The Greatest music videos of all time, including clips from artists like Bob Dylan, Grandmaster Flash, Ciccone Youth and more. The show kicks off Friday October 9 from 12:18am on ABC Entertains, or stream it LIVE on iview.
