Welcome to Trieu Tam Tam! Today, I head into the bamboo forest to harvest fresh bamboo shoots. Some shoots grow deep inside thick bamboo bushes, making them difficult to reach. I have to carefully squeeze between the bamboo stems and find the right position to break them off. A few shoots are also covered with ants and small insects, so I gently brush them away before harvesting. After filling my bamboo basket with fresh bamboo shoots, I carry them to a busy roadside area to sell. However, I intentionally keep two tender bamboo shoots to prepare a simple homemade lunch. After selling the rest, I return home and start cooking. For today's lunch, I prepare a delicious stir-fried bamboo shoot dish with fresh sawtooth coriander (culantro), a fragrant herb commonly used in Vietnamese cooking. I also fry some fresh fish until golden and crispy. These two simple countryside dishes make a satisfying meal after a busy morning of harvesting and selling bamboo shoots. The next day, I head to a piece of land that I previously cleared and cultivated to harvest fresh jicama (yam beans). Since the tubers grow deep beneath the soil, I use a hoe to carefully dig them out. After collecting enough, I carry the jicama to a nearby stream to wash away the dirt and mud before bringing them to the village market. Before selling the jicama, I taste one and find it wonderfully crunchy and refreshing. In my experience, freshly harvested jicama can become even sweeter after being stored in a cool, well-ventilated place for a while, allowing it to lose a little moisture. This is a familiar way people in my area enjoy this delicious root vegetable. From harvesting bamboo shoots in the forest and cooking stir-fried bamboo shoots with culantro for lunch to digging fresh jicama and selling farm products at the village market, this video captures traditional farming, countryside cooking, village market life, and the simple rhythm of rural life in Vietnam. 🌾 Subscribe to Trieu Tam Tam for more authentic videos about rural life in Vietnam, harvesting bamboo shoots, traditional countryside cooking, stir-fried bamboo shoots, harvesting jicama, village markets, and simple everyday life.
