What a WEEK!
Welcome back to The Curious Compass! In Week 48 of our two-year venture across the United States, our 25-year-old F-250 and cabover camper setup brought us into the heart of Georgia and the peaks of South Carolina.
We kicked things off with some history at Roswell Falls before heading into Atlanta. To be completely honest, our time in the city left us with major mixed feelings—leading to a massive 4-minute Atlanta and Uber rant you won't want to miss! Between the glaring lack of public transit options to the Braves' ballpark, navigating a severe homeless problem, and dealing with incredibly aggressive panhandling, this visit solidified a huge realization for us: major metropolitan cities are officially not for us. We've decided that the quiet country and mountain roads are much more our scene!
From the $22 "glorified advertisement" at the World of Coca-Cola to an incredible Braves baseball game, soul food at Fin and Feather, and a peaceful walk through the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library, Atlanta gave us the absolute highest highs and some frustrating lows.
Thankfully, the road trip took a beautiful turn when we crossed into South Carolina. We found amazing Boondockers Welcome hosts, Seneca Ram Cat with Charles and Nanette, danced up a storm at a local jazz festival, and explored the historic Stumphouse Tunnel. Plus, since state highpoints are high on our bucket list, we actually had to loop back to catch Sassafras Mountain after missing it the first time we passed through the area—and reaching the highest point in South Carolina at 3,553 feet was worth every extra mile!
