Beef Chui Jhal is a flavorful Bengali dish known for its rich spices and bold flavors. Here's a traditional recipe to make Beef Chui Jhal:
Ingredients:
500g beef, cut into bite-sized pieces
2 onions, finely chopped
3-4 garlic cloves, minced
1-inch piece of ginger, grated
2-3 green chilies, slit lengthwise
2 tomatoes, finely chopped
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons mustard oil (or any cooking oil)
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Heat mustard oil (or cooking oil of your choice) in a deep skillet or pan over medium heat.
Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chilies to the skillet. Sauté for a couple of minutes until the raw smell disappears and the mixture becomes aromatic.
Add the turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and red chili powder to the skillet. Mix well to combine with the onion-garlic-ginger mixture.
Add the chopped tomatoes to the skillet and cook until they soften and release their juices, stirring occasionally.
Once the tomatoes are softened, add the beef pieces to the skillet. Season with salt according to taste. Mix well to coat the beef pieces with the spice mixture.
Cook the beef over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until it's browned on all sides.
Once the beef is browned, add about 1 cup of water to the skillet. Stir well, cover the skillet, and let the beef simmer over low heat until it's tender. This might take about 30-40 minutes, depending on the cut of beef.
Check the beef occasionally and add more water if needed to prevent it from drying out.
Once the beef is tender and the gravy has thickened to your desired consistency, remove the skillet from the heat.
Garnish the Beef Chui Jhal with fresh coriander leaves, if desired.
Serve hot with steamed rice or your favorite bread.
Enjoy the rich flavors of Beef Chui Jhal as a hearty main course dish!
