I Coached College Defenses. Is Colin Simmons Really That Special?

When I was defensive coordinator at Mississippi State, I coached a guy by the name of Chris Jones. We put him at tackle. We let him go off the edge. He was position-less as a pass rusher. He was technically sound enough to stay in his rush lane, strong enough to bull rush anybody, and fast enough to get around anybody. I don’t make comparisons to Chris Jones lightly, but Colin Simmons is also position-less as a pass rusher. He just finds ways to get there. And Will Muschamp, Texas’s defensive play caller, sets him up beautifully. But how far can they take this? Is this guy truly un-blockable? Can Oklahoma block this guy? Those are the questions that drove me to the film. If you like this stuff, let me know with that thumbs up and by subscribing. We're going to be trying to get 1% better with these each week.
