One road trip from Minnesota to Colorado. And one incredible day searching for GOLD in the Rocky Mountains. This adventure takes us deep into Clear Creek Canyon in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where our entire family gets the chance to experience Colorado gold prospecting for the first time. Coming from the Midwest, this was a completely different world. Bigger boulders. Faster water. Steeper terrain. Incredible geology. And an entirely new river to learn. We spent the day digging, crevicing, test panning, classifying material and running our sluice while learning how to prospect water completely different from what we’re used to back home. And of course, we were searching for that Colorado GOLD. But this adventure wasn’t only about what ended up in our pans. While John and I worked the river, the kids explored Clear Creek Canyon, searched the rocks and experienced the Rocky Mountains in a way they’ll hopefully remember for the rest of their lives. Hunter even got to stand in a Rocky Mountain canyon running a sluice for gold—following in the footsteps of prospectors who came to Colorado generations before us. And Bonnie had another mission… 💎 ROCKHOUNDING CLEAR CREEK CANYON Gold wasn’t the only treasure we were searching for. We kept our eyes open for mineralized quartz, garnets, rose quartz, zircon, topaz and even the possibility of amazonite. But the ultimate goal was finding something Bonnie has been chasing for a long time—a natural specimen with gold still locked inside the rock. Did Clear Creek Canyon finally give us one? You’ll have to come along and find out.
