History of Na’vi River Journey Disney announced plans to bring the world of Avatar to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in September 2011. The ambitious expansion was developed through a collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment. Pandora – The World of Avatar officially opened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on May 27, 2017. The new land introduced guests to the Valley of Mo’ara, its floating mountains, alien plant life, bioluminescent environments, and two major attractions: Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey.
