I wrote “Pages of the Fallen Dream” to explore the complex relationship many people have with the Bible and organised religion, especially from an atheist or critically questioning perspective. I wanted to express the idea that, while the Bible is often called "inspired," it was ultimately written, translated, and interpreted by imperfect human beings, each with their own flaws, biases, and limitations. This song is my way of challenging the notion that any book, no matter how revered, should be considered infallible or above questioning. Instead, I wanted to highlight the importance of personal exploration, doubt, and honest searching. The lyrics reflect a sense of wonder and melancholy, questioning traditional dogma while still acknowledging the deep longing for meaning that drives people to seek answers. By using the gothic dreamwave genre, I aimed to create a haunting, ethereal soundscape that matches the themes of mystery, uncertainty, and the surreal quality of faith and doubt. The music and words together evoke the feeling of wandering through candlelit cathedrals or ancient ruins searching for truth amid shadows and echoes. Ultimately, I wrote “Pages of the Fallen Dream” to encourage listeners to think for themselves and to embrace their own journey toward understanding, rather than simply accepting what’s handed down through tradition. It’s a song for anyone who feels caught between belief and scepticism and a reminder that the most meaningful answers are often found in the questions we dare to ask.
