1042KM in 3 days riding motobike across 6 provinces of northern Cambodia — from a Mekong sandbar island to a pre-Angkorian temple city. Koh Han, Sopheak Mit waterfall, Phnom Tbeng Preah vihea and Sambo Prey Kuk. ១០៤២គីឡូម៉ែត្រ ៣ថ្ងៃ ឆ្លងកាត់ ៦ខេត្ត — ពីកោះដីខ្សាច់នៅទន្លេមេគង្គ ដល់ប្រាសាទមុនសម័យអង្គរ។ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ We left Phnom Penh at 4:30am and rode 1042km through Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Kratie, Stung Treng, Preah Vihear and Kampong Thom. The main destination was Koh Han — a sandbar island in the Mekong at Stung Treng that can only be reached during dry season. We camped there one night, watching birds, giant trees, kayaked at sunset, and had our boat engine die near a stretch of aggressive current. Everyone grabbed kayak paddles and rowed until the captain got it started again. From there we rode north to Sopheak Mit waterfall (ល្បាក់ខោន) on the Lao border, where the Mekong enters Cambodia. Then 84km of gravel along the border through Kampong Sralau to Preah Vihear, and finally Sambo Prey Kuk — a pre-Angkorian temple complex with nearly 300 structures, where we meant to stop for twenty minutes and stayed almost two hours. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with friends. This trip proved that more than once. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📍 ROUTE / ផ្លូវធ្វើដំណើរ Phnom Penh → Kampong Cham (Kizuna bridge, dry-season flower garden) → Krong Suong, Tbong Khmum → Dambae → Kratie (Wat Rokar Kandal Chas, 200 years old) → Sekong bridge, Stung Treng → Koh Han, Ramsar wetland → Mekong bridge → Sopheak Mit waterfall → Kampong Sralau → Srok Cheb → Preah Vihear → Sambo Prey Kuk, Kampong Thom 6 provinces / ៦ខេត្ត · 1042km · 3 days ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ IF YOU'RE RIDING THIS ROUTE Koh Han is dry-season only. Same with the Kampong Cham flower garden and the bamboo bridge next to Kizuna bridge — they're rebuilt each year and gone in the wet season. Contact the Koh Han community ahead of time. They arranged our boat, camping spot, and food (a 3kg Mekong fish). Sopheak Mit: from road 64 it's 58km total, and 35km of that is off-road from the waterfall entrance. Budget an hour and expect to be covered in dust. Kampong Sralau to Srok Cheb along the Lao border is 84km of gravel. It's shorter than backtracking via road 64, but it is not easy. Don't attempt it late in the day. Sekong bridge in Stung Treng sits at the 3S junction — Sekong, Sesan and Mekong rivers meet there. Worth stopping. Get a guide at Sambo Prey Kuk. We didn't, and regretted it. Ride with people.
