☦ Saints of the day 08 October / 25 September The Reading: Psalmodizing and prayer have their proper place in the spiritual life. St. Gregory of Sinai explains why some Christians psalmodize frequently, others sparingly, and others devote themselves almost entirely to prayer and silence. He warns against judging another person's spiritual experience merely because it differs from our own. Some are called to greater ascetic labor, while others, through God's grace, may progress more quickly toward the action of prayer. St. Gregory emphasizes that outward ascetic works—fasting, vigils, prostrations, and psalmody—must be accompanied by the inward work of the mind and heart. Prayer with the lips is not enough if the mind is wandering. He also teaches that moderation is important. Those who are exhausted by intense mental prayer may use psalmody, Scripture, spiritual reading, or manual labor to give the mind some rest. But those who have attained deeper prayer should not unnecessarily abandon the remembrance of God merely to return to outward activity. Throughout this teaching, St. Gregory warns against self-will and spiritual pride, emphasizing the importance of humility, obedience, spiritual guidance, and discernment. From the writings of St. Gregory of Sinai on stillness, prayer, and the different ways of psalmodizing. May the Lord teach us when to speak, when to sing, when to be silent, and above all, how to pray with the heart. #OrthodoxChristianity #OrthodoxPrayer #Psalmodizing #Psalmody #JesusPrayer #StGregoryOfSinai #Hesychasm #OrthodoxFaith #ChurchFathers #withSeraphim 00:00 - Start 00:08 - Earthquake in Constantinople 00:47 - St Paphnutius 01:27 - Righteous Euphrosyne 02:07 - Venerable Sergius 02:47 - Saint Aunaire 03:27 - Saint Ceolfrith 04:07 - Saint Firminus 04:47 - Saint Principius 05:27 - Saint Solemnis 06:07 - Saints Aurelia and Neomisia 06:47 - Saint Arsenius the Great 07:27 - Saint Cadoc 08:07 - Saint Finbarr 08:47 - Venerable Dosithea 09:27 - Venerable Euphrosyne 10:07 - Saint Herman 10:47 - Saint with no icons or pictures
