麦子杰, 王佩: Love Must Not Be Forgotten (爱不了忘不了) - OST - The Snow is Red 1996 (雪花神剑) - English

Translating the main theme song (片頭曲) "Love Must Not Be Forgotten" (爱不了忘不了) from The Snow is Red 1996 (雪花神剑) into English. Original Cantonese Song by Mai Zi Jie (麦子杰) and Wang Pei (王佩). This ATV series was a big budget production that released in 1996 and was very popular. It is adapted from the novel "Jiangxue Xuanshuang" (绛雪玄霜), by Chinese writer Wolong Sheng (臥龍生). Unfortunately, I haven't read this novel, so can't comment on the faithfulness of this adaptation. It's another story of good versus evil, intertwined with the theme of love and honor. The first 20 episodes of the series kept me captivated and interested. The remaining 20 episodes were pretty thin plot wise and seemed to drag on forever. This is because they did the reveals to the plot twists way too early in my books. None the less, it is an enjoyable series that I recommend watching if you haven't seen it. Now the the cast, starting with the men. Andrew Yuen (袁文傑) was the star of the show. He looked handsome and so it was believable that the girls in the series would swoon over him. This was the first series that I saw featuring Andrew Yuen and I thought he did okay. I didn't like the character that he portrayed though. Indecisive when it comes to love so the girls had to make the choice for him. He was supported by David Chiang (姜偉年), Norman Chui (徐少強), Eddy Ko (高雄), and Lawrence Yan (甄志強). I kind of cringe at the way men were portrayed in this series. Though Lawrence Yan was probably the best of the male characters. The star of the show was Kristy Yeung (楊恭如) in my books. Such a great character and a strong performance too from Kristy Yeung. I wouldn't have completed the entire 40 episodes without her character. I was intrigued to see how she would turn out in the end. She was supported by Alice Chan (陳煒). But I found Alice Chan's character lacking depth and didn't develop much during the series. Mimi Kung (龔慈恩) put in a really good performance as the main evil character. Veteran Michelle Yim (嚴惠玲), also known as Mai Suet (米雪), featured at the start of the series which is why I love the first 20 odd episodes more. Wong Yim Na (王艷娜), and Wong Oi Yiu (黄瑷瑶) rounded out an impressive female cast. The main theme song which I translated as "Love Must Not Be Forgotten" is a lovely duet between Mai Zi Jie and Wang Pei. This is one of the most popular theme songs in the 1990's. I hope I did it justice. I wasn't 100% happy with the translation but will keep moving down my song list. I will update and revise the translations once I finish my song list. Hopefully by then I will by a new IT set up so I can redo the videos in HD. Anyway, enjoy... I am willing to take requests to translate other TVB, ATV or wuxia songs in the comments section. Also please subscribe and share with your friends and help grow this channel. The more subscribers, the more songs I'll translate to English!
