The Treaty of Trianon, signed in 1920 after the First World War, profoundly affected Hungary both territorially and psychologically. As a result of the agreement, Hungary lost approximately two-thirds of its territory and a significant portion of its population, with millions of ethnic Hungarians finding themselves outside the new national borders. Later, it was banned during the Arrow Cross period due to the Jewish origins of its authors, and after World War II it was suppressed again for its “nationalist” tone, only becoming freely accessible in Hungary after the political changes of 1989.
