12:34 Andante
➤ Written in 1943 and then adapted by the composer himself for voilin and piano in 1944, the Flute Sonata by S. Prokofiev is a masterpiece of the flute repertoire. It was performed by Nikolay Kharkovsky at the flute and Sviatoslav Richter at the piano during the premiere in Moscow.
this piece is a compendium of the characteristics of Russian music that distinguish the writing of the well-known composer: alternation between light and cantabile fairytale sounds, and extremely concrete and earthly sounds, sudden harmonic contrasts, strong and marked virtuosity - very far from the French sensibility.
All this without forgetting the crudeness of the accents and rhythm, often exasperated to the limit of the instrument's capabilities, derived from the terrible historical period in which the same sonata was composed.
