A total of 38 multi-agency composite teams conducted simultaneous searches at 38 locations in Aizawl, Champhai, Lawngtlai in Mizoram, Churachandpur in Manipur and Guwahati in Assam, The operation resulted in the arrest of 18 persons, the seizure of 500 detonators and 12 lakh cash, the freezing of 1,424 bank accounts and the provisional attachment of properties valued at ₹17.82 crore. Meticulous Multi-Agency Planning & Synchronised Execution Operation Trident represents a benchmark in institutional cohesion in intelligence sharing & operational planning to target drug kingpins & their associates in Mizoram. Preceded by days of covert intelligence fusion, joint target-mapping, and high-level tactical briefings among Mizoram Police and Central Agencies, the operation was meticulously designed to simultaneously strike both the logistics nodes and the illicit financial arteries of the syndicates. Acting with surgical precision under a unified command structure, 38 multi-agency composite teams were mobilised concurrently across 38 pre-identified locations spanning Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur. The coordinated strikes extensively covered key urban hubs and sensitive border corridors—including Aizawl, Champhai, and the strategic Indo-Myanmar border trading town of Zokhawthar in Mizoram, alongside linked operative bases in Churachandpur, Manipur and the Cachar/Assam transit corridor. Despite challenging terrain and vast geographical spread, exceptional inter-departmental coordination ensured that all searches, enquiries, and financial audits were executed simultaneously, preventing the flight of suspects or the concealment of illicit assets. Mizoram Police As part of Operation Trident, Mizoram Police, in close coordination with Assam Police, Manipur Police and Central Agencies carried out coordinated operations across multiple locations in Assam and Manipur resulting in the arrest of five persons in connection with an ongoing investigation into a suspected inter-state drug trafficking network.Directorate of Enforcement (ED) The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Aizawl and Imphal Sub-Zonal Offices, conducted coordinated search operations under Section 17 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) at multiple premises in Aizawl, Champhai and Lawngtlai (Mizoram) and Churachandpur (Manipur) in three cases of money laundering. During the action, ED froze 1,424 bank accounts connected to narcotrade and narco-hawala operators in Mizoram and Manipur and provisionally attached properties worth Rs. 17.82 Crore belonging to narco-hawala operators based in Mizoram. Six accused persons were arrested under Section 19 of PMLA during the searches - two in Mizoram, one in Gujarat and three in Manipur. Searches covered the premises of hawala operators, mule-account holders, front businesses and the Mini-ATM counter in Champhai, Aizawl, Lawngtlai and Churachandpur, and bank branches holding the key accounts. Narcotics Control Bureau The NCB conducted coordinated searches at 13 locations in Mizoram, resulting in the arrest of seven persons and the seizure of Rs. 12 lakh in cash and 500 detonators from the possession of two accused. During the operation, Lalduhawma and Suitei were arrested in Aizawl, while Teresa, Lalbiakhluna, Lalliansanga, Pency and Laltlanzova Pautu were arrested in Champhai. Operation Trident demonstrates the importance of coordinated action, intelligencesharing and financial investigation in tackling organised drug trafficking networks that operate across state boundaries. The simultaneous action by Mizoram Police, NCB and ED reflects a concerted effort to identify not only those involved in drug trafficking but also the financial networks and support structures suspected of facilitating such activities. Mizoram Police remains committed to dismantling inter-state and international drug trafficking networks operating within the state through sustained intelligence-led enforcement, effective inter-agency coordination and action against the financial proceeds of drug-related crime. The collective objective remains the realisation of a drug-free Mizoram and drug-free India.
