231 people were approaching Warsaw in a Boeing 767 with every landing wheel still retracted. The hydraulic system had failed. Then the backup refused to work.
On November 1, 2011, LOT Polish Airlines Flight 16 arrived from Newark facing a landing its crew had spent more than an hour trying to avoid. Fighter jets checked the aircraft, firefighters prepared runway 33 with foam, and the cabin crew readied 221 passengers for impact.
This Between Frames documentary follows the flight from the first hydraulic failure to the gear-up landing and evacuation. Flight-simulator footage, animated 3D explanations and investigation evidence show how two separate failures left the crew without a working method of lowering the landing gear—and why an overlooked circuit breaker became central to the investigation.
All 231 people on board survived without injuries. The aircraft was written off.
