The Audrey Hepburn Discovery Story Everyone Gets Wrong

There's a beautiful story people love to tell about how Audrey Hepburn became a star: a famous French novelist spots an unknown young woman on the Monaco seafront and turns her into an overnight sensation. It's a wonderful story, and most of it actually happened. But it leaves out something remarkable: at almost exactly the same time, a completely different director was independently deciding to make her a star too, for a completely different reason, and neither man knew about the other. Audrey Hepburn wasn't discovered once. She was discovered twice, within months of each other, by two people who'd never met. 🕐 TIMESTAMPS 0:00 - The Discovery Story Everyone Knows 0:58 - How Colette Really Found Her Gigi 1:44 - The Myth About Her Having No Experience 2:22 - The Search For Roman Holiday's Princess 3:03 - The Screen Test That Changed Everything 4:00 - Two Discoveries, Months Apart 4:29 - Gregory Peck's Generous Bet 5:32 - Her Hollywood Debut Wins the Oscar 6:02 - Not a Fairy Tale, Something Better 6:38 - Setting the Record Straight 📚 SOURCES REFERENCED IN THIS VIDEO Open Culture: "Audrey Hepburn's Moving Screen Test for Roman Holiday (1953)": https://www.openculture.com/2015/08/a...
