Train Journey | Madurai to Theni by 06701 Madurai Theni Express Special

A long time dream coming true! An exploration on the picturesque Madurai - Bodinayakkannur railway line. The line is presently opened between Madurai and Theni, with the rest of the line being converted to Broad Gauge. The Madurai - Theni broad guage line was laid in the early 20th century as a Narrow Gauge railway line. It was closed during the World war, and later rebuilt as meter gauge line post independence. The railway line was closed in 2011 for gauge conversion, and was opened for traffic only in 2022. The railway line runs close to the Western Ghats, and connects the foothills of the western ghats to Madurai. The railway line is an important connection for people in Idukki district of Kerala, and Theni district of Tamil Nadu - it was also a major contributor to the region's economic progress, and the trains were extensively used to carry the produce from the hills to the plains.
