Nine women have been found dead across Ekurhuleni since July. Four have now been positively identified: Itumeleng Kekana, Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, Dineo Evelyn Motapane and 28-year-old Gracious Nkomo.
Gracious Nkomo was identified by her family after her body was found partially clothed along the R21 in Kempton Park on 10 September 2026.
Her identification brings the number of publicly identified victims in the wider Ekurhuleni investigation to four.
But the investigation is raising even bigger questions.
Calls are growing for the death penalty to be reconsidered following the deaths of the women, with Dineo Motapane’s family among those calling for tougher punishment.
At the same time, there is now R900 000 in combined rewards for information.
The South African Police Service has offered R400 000 for information that could assist investigators and lead to arrests.
The Democratic Alliance has separately offered R500 000 for information leading to the successful prosecution of those responsible.
But police have warned that it is still too early to confirm whether all nine deaths are connected.
So who were the four women who have been identified?
What happened to them?
Could the reward money finally unlock crucial information?
And could these cases lead to a renewed national debate about the death penalty in South Africa?
In this video, we break down the four identified victims, the calls for the death penalty, the DA’s R500 000 reward and the SAPS R400 000 reward.
Watch to the end and tell us what you think.
