Have you ever felt like if you just explained yourself a little better, someone would finally understand you? Sometimes that's not the problem. Not everyone is listening to understand. Some people are listening to respond, defend their opinion, or prove you wrong. And the more you explain yourself, the more you can end up seeking validation from people who were never willing to understand you in the first place. This doesn't mean everyone who disagrees with you is a bad person. And it doesn't mean you should never explain yourself. It means you need to choose your people. There are people who will genuinely listen, ask questions, and try to understand your perspective even when they disagree with you. And then there are people who have already decided what they think about you. You could explain yourself perfectly and still be misunderstood. With the right people and in the right places, you'll be understood even when you don't explain that much. With the wrong people and in the wrong places, you'll keep explaining yourself and still feel misunderstood. Communicate when it's needed. Explain when it's deserved. But don't sacrifice your peace trying to convince someone who has already decided not to understand you.
