I've always had the sheet music for this concert encore piece, but I never chose to play it because of all the crazy trills it has. Well, the best time to play a good trill is in the hot summer months when blood circulates in the fingers most efficiently. The flip side of the coin, of course, is that your energy level really 'tanks.' So the only way I could record this piece was at a slower tempo while under the influence of several cups of stiff black coffee. The 'Hora Staccato' is a fast, lively piece in the Romanian dance style traditionally in 2/4 or 3/8 time & modified rondo form. It combines folk elements with virtuosic violin technique & calls for a light articulation of fast passages combined with rhythmic flair. It's a great virtuosic showpiece & is often used as a concert encore. It was composed by the great Romanian violinist Grigoraș Dinicu & arranged for violin & piano by Jascha Heifetz.
N.B. I'm sorry that I cannot post the sheet music for this great accordion arrangement by Bernie Alkoff since it is under some pretty strict international copyright restrictions.
