The king came back from vacation ready to save the whole place. Unfortunately, everyone believed him.
“The King Is Back — Back to Work Version” is an industrial hard rock workplace comedy about confidence, bad decisions, and what happens when you say, “Bring me the work” a little too loudly.
Long live the king.
He already wants his vacation back.
Lyrics:
[Intro]
Move aside.
The king is back.
[Verse 1]
I walked back in with a holiday grin
Two weeks gone — let the work begin
Coffee in my cup like royal wine
Dust on my bench, but the throne is mine
I heard this place barely made it through
Held up with tape and a prayer or two
Relax, boys, I can fix all that
Bow down now — the king is back
[Pre-Chorus]
Turn on the lights
Wake up the shop
Stack up the trouble
Don’t let it stop
[Chorus]
The king is back!
Ring the bell — raise the flag
Pile it high — add to the stack
The king is back!
No excuses — no turning back
Dump all the damn work in my lap
Come on...
Bring me the work
Bring me the wreck
Bring me the mess piled up to my neck
The king is back...
Yeah.
That’s what I said.
[Verse 2]
By ten o’clock — twenty-seven calls
Two dead engines, water down the walls
The boss walked in with a smile too wide
“Glad you’re back — we’re six weeks behind”
One went to lunch and vanished for good
One saw the pile and ran while he could
Now every fool with a broken plan
Drops it at the feet of the working man
[Pre-Chorus]
I said, “Bring it!”
They heard, “Bring me more!”
Now there’s a mountain of work
Blocking my door
[Chorus]
The king is back!
Ring the bell — raise the flag
Pile it high — add to the stack
The king is back!
No excuses — no turning back
Dump all the damn work in my lap
Come on...
Bring me the work
Bring me the wreck
Bring me the mess piled up to my neck
The king is back...
Yeah.
That’s what I said.
[Bridge]
Yeah, I said, “Pile it on.”
I know what I said.
I meant give me some work
Not bury me alive in it.
Next time I call myself king,
Somebody knock the crown off my head.
[Bridge]
A crown made of invoices, a robe made of sweat
A wrench for a scepter, the floor soaking wet
I wanted the glory, I wanted respect
Now I rule every problem they chose to neglect
[Final Chorus]
The king is back!
No more bells — lower the flag
Take this crown and hand me my bag
The king is tired!
One more job and I’m gonna crack
Who put the whole damn shop on my back?
Still...
Bring me the work
Bring me the wreck
I talked too big — now I’m paying the debt
The king is back...
Yeah.
And the king wants his damn vacation back.
