What makes a good dance floor? is the crowd's energy! a crowd that fully immerses itself, trusts our narrative, and is open to experiencing and listening to music beyond what they expect. A great sound system and low lighting—that’s perfect. • How did you start playing music and what drives you? When I was a child, I loved sitting with my parents' CD collection, listening to music on my own—songs of all genres—and reading the lyrics; it was my favorite pastime. I think that’s what sparked my interest in music curation. I think my first exposure to dance-floor electronic music was listening to the Gala CD my mom had. I loved "Come Into My Life" and "Free from Desire" that music really got me pumped up! In 2016, my friends and I decided to throw a party, but none of us were DJs LOL so I was the one chosen to learn how to play, given my reputation for musical knowledge and great playlists. Well, here I am... • Why do we need club culture? We know that, historically, these spaces have always been safe havens for expression for marginalized communities and LGBTQIAP+ individuals. Even though things have changed today—and the people making the most money from this are wealthy, white, heteronormative individuals—I still believe we must keep creating our own spaces and occupying as many places as possible, fostering connections, culture, and equality. To me, club culture is a powerful force that strengthens our community. • Tell us about a magical club moment. One of the most beautiful moments I experienced at the club was the first time I saw one of my best friends—and one of the best DJs I know, OMOLOKO—playing at Panorama. It was deeply moving.
