Tuesday Times Roundtable is FIU’s weekly series of moderated conversations around current global issues and trends. Conversations bring into play the multiple viewpoints of students, faculty, staff, and community members. All sessions are absolutely FREE and lunch is on us! TTR: Understanding Alzheimer's Disease from the Lab to the Community • Presenter: Daniel A. Martinez-Perez, Postdoctoral Associate, Environmental Health Sciences, Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work, FIU • SDG Topic Category: SDG3: Good Health and Well-being • News Article: go.fiu.edu/ttr0922 • Description: This session shared the research experience in Dr. Tomás R. Guilarte's laboratory at Florida International University from the perspective of a Ph.D. student, highlighting efforts to understand the role of an early biomarker of neuroinflammation in Alzheimer's disease. We also discussed the work of the Group of Neurosciences of Antioquia in studying the world's largest kindred with familial Alzheimer's disease in Colombia and explored how this research has impacted patients, families, and the broader community, while also advancing our understanding of Alzheimer's disease and informing potential prevention methods and treatments for patients worldwide.
