The bike has been running perfectly since I fitted the Omega Gold Star piston, but it still clatters like an old mower, and has been bugging me for a long time, because I know they can be very quiet. The only parts inside the engine, that I haven't replaced, are the two timing pinions, but good ones have been hard to find, until now. The first impressions of a brief ride around the block and a short bit of dirt, are that makes a lot less noise, and the new old stock pinions were worth the time it took to change them. Another change to the engine for the race season, is I'll be using an HS camshaft, and this gives a whole lot more low to mid range grunt. Although the modified standard cam went very well, it was only higher lift, and the HS can has better duration and overlap as well. After a bit more fettling, I'll give it a better off road test.
