Replacing a Caterpillar 302.5 Mini Excavator Starter Perkins Diesel

2001 Caterpillar 302.5 mini excavator My starter on my mini excavator seized up on me the other day. The starter that was in it was an original caterpillar starter that cost approximately $650 and was installed a few years ago. I miss quoted in the video and said year 2000, it was actually year 2020. The caterpillar starters come with a one year warranty. This time I am trying an aftermarket starter I bought on eBay for $99. For a $550 difference in cost, I will take my chances this time. I did not record taking the starter out because it was at the end of a day and just wanted to get it done. But once I got the starter out, I brought it down to a local O’Reilly‘s auto parts to test it on their machine for me. it tested bad. Obviously, it was seized. They were unable to find one in their computer system. So that’s why I resorted to finding one on eBay. Let’s hope this starter last me a few years. I also had to tighten up my muffler while I was in there, so it was kind of a good thing because it forced me to fix the exhaust rattle. The muffler bolts behind the engine had loosened up and one had fallen all the way out. It is all fixed now, the starter and the exhaust rattle.
