• Eira’s Journeys I Cinematic Nordic Folk Am...
Inspired by Dante Alighieri’s Inferno, the first part of The Divine Comedy.
Beyond the last road, where the earth cracks beneath ancient fires, there stands a gate of black iron. No kingdom claims it. No army guards it. It has stood there since before the oldest songs were written, waiting for those who have reached the end of every other path.
Eira found it at dusk.
She had crossed a wasteland of ash and broken stone, following a trail that appeared only when the wind fell silent. Behind her lay the world she knew. Before her rose a towering arch, its iron twisted into shapes resembling reaching hands, its surface scarred by centuries of fire. Beyond it, a ruined city burned beneath a sky without stars.
Above the entrance, words had been carved into grey stone.
She approached and traced the ancient letters with trembling fingers. The inscription spoke of an irreversible passage, a place where hope could no longer reach and the light of the living world could not follow.
Eira understood the warning. Still, she could not turn away.
For years, she had carried the weight of everything she had lost: the voices that had faded, the promises left unfulfilled, and the memories that returned whenever she tried to sleep. She had believed that somewhere beyond the boundaries of the known world, she might find an answer capable of silencing them.
Now, standing before the iron gate, she wondered whether she had been searching for an answer—or simply for a place where she would no longer have to ask the questions.
The gate opened without a sound.
Inside, the air was heavy with the dust of forgotten centuries. Towers rose from rivers of fire, and bridges stretched across abysses where distant shadows moved like souls caught in an endless dream. There were no welcoming voices, no guiding lights, only the slow echo of her footsteps descending into the darkness.
With every step, something familiar seemed to fall away. The warmth of distant summers. The sound of a loved one’s laughter. The fragile belief that every wound must eventually heal.
At the heart of the ruins, Eira heard a voice—not calling her name, but repeating the words she had read above the entrance.
Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.
She stopped.
Perhaps the true horror of this place was not the fire, the darkness, or the shadows that gathered beyond her sight. Perhaps it was the realisation that no one could cross this threshold without leaving something behind.
She looked back. Far beyond the gate, the horizon held the faintest trace of light.
For one final moment, she remembered the world she had left: its cold mornings, its quiet forests, the wind moving through the pines. All the imperfect things she had once taken for granted.
Then the gate began to close.
Eira did not run.
She stepped forward into the darkness, carrying nothing but the memory of the light.
And behind her, the iron doors met.
No cry escaped the ruins. No flame reached toward the sky. The ancient inscription remained untouched, waiting for the next traveller who would mistake the end of the road for the beginning of an answer.
Some gates are built to keep the darkness inside.
Others exist to discover what we are willing to leave behind.
At the Iron Gate is a mystical cinematic Nordic folk journey inspired by Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, particularly the legendary inscription above the Gates of Hell in Inferno. Through a haunting tale of an irreversible passage, forgotten memories and the final abandonment of hope, the music explores the boundary between fear, loss and the unknown.
