Today I'm reacting to Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson – “Say Say Say,” one of the biggest superstar collaborations of the 1980s.
Putting a former Beatle together with the man who would become the King of Pop sounds almost unbelievable when you think about it now, but Paul and Michael had fantastic musical chemistry. “Say Say Say” became a huge success, spending an incredible six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in America.
Watching them having so much fun together also feels very different knowing that their relationship would later become strained, with Michael's acquisition of the publishing catalogue containing many Beatles songs becoming a major source of tension between them.
But before all of that, we had “Say Say Say” — two musical giants from different generations coming together and creating one of the biggest hits of the decade.
After watching this, I understand why America kept it at No. 1 for six weeks!
Let me know what you think of Paul and Michael together — and do you wish they'd made more music together?
