Moving to Madinah is my dream, but before I make Hijrah to Madinah, I realized there is a much bigger question I need to answer: Am I actually ready for Madinah? This is the second chapter of my Moving to Madinah journey. Before researching Saudi residency, finding a home, calculating the cost of living, or figuring out how I can legally settle in Madinah, I want to start somewhere much more important, with myself. I’m calling this chapter The Cleansing. For me, preparing for Hijrah to Madinah means correcting my niyyah, becoming consistent with the five daily prayers, bringing more of the Sunnah into my everyday life, increasing Durood and Istighfar, practicing gratitude, and asking Allah to allow me to live in Madinah, and, if it is best for me, to eventually die there. Madinah Al-Munawwarah isn't simply another city I want to move to. It is the city of Rasulullah ﷺ. So before asking “How can I move to Madinah?”, I need to ask: “Who do I need to become before I move to Madinah?” I don't know whether this journey will eventually end with my family and me living in Madinah. That's why I'm documenting everything. The spiritual preparation. The finances. The legal routes and Saudi residency options. The family decisions. The visits to Madinah.
