Join us on Saturday October 03, 2026 for another interesting edition of part 2 of HaveYourSay247 at 9:00PM Nigerian Time and 3:00PM New York Time as we bring you interesting stories from around the world. Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu met with and praised the passengers of the Tel Aviv bound Flydubai flight from Dubai, after they reached Israel safely on Wednesday. Passengers and crew foiled a co-pilot's attempt to crash the aircraft in a struggle that began when he stabbed the pilot and sent the jet plunging nearly 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds. And in Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu returned home after a four week 'working vacation' in Europe, having missed the United Nations General Assembly 81st session, which coincided wit his vacation, marking his absence from UNGA the third time in a row. Nigerians were told by the Presidency that he was directing the affairs of State from Europe simply because he directed for a probe into the unfortunate incident of 37 "illegal" miners who died under questionable circumstances while being held in a detention facility at the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC office in Minna. Meanwhile, the President returned to Lagos on Tuesday instead of Abuja, the seat of government, and subsequently observed a low key 66th Independence anniversary of Nigeria in Lagos, as he did last year. On October 1, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu delivered a 19-minute Independence speech where he told Nigerians that the economy has reached a turning point, stabilised and the economic reforms yielding fruits and asked for Nigerians to endure and wait for the full manifestation of the gains of fuel subsidy removal and other reforms. In the aftermath of the death of the 37 miners, Niger State, youths planned a protest to persuade the state government to unravel the death, and to dissuade the youths, the State governor, Mohammed Umar Bago organised to share N5000 a piece to the youths at the Government House. Unfortunately, a stampede after the Government House was thrown open led to the death of three people including a mother and her daughter. Ahead of the January 16, 2027 general elections, five youths who wore t-shirts bearing the inscription "Tinubu Must Go" in Borno State were arrested by the Police, reportedly on the orders of the State governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, for incitement and disturbing public peace, and were subsequently remanded in prison custody by a Borno State Magistrate Court. In Edo State, a Special Court set up by the State Chief Judge sentenced four men to death either by hanging or lethal injection for kidnapping a woman in a vegetable market in the State. The presiding Judge who almost came to tears while delivering the death penalty judgment said that his hands were tied by the law. And in the world of politics, fresh moves at a coalition to wrest power from the incumbent received a boost following the meeting of opposition parties led by the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed and the Presidential candidate of the ADC, Atiku Abubakar. In another effort, members of the Movement for Credible Elections, MCE led by Prof. Pat Utomi also held coalition meetings aimed at strengthening the opposition before the elections. In a similar move at the subnational level, the APC governor of Ekiti State Biodun Oyebanji and the candidate of the PDP in the last Ekiti State governorship election, Mr. Oluyede have formed a coalition to deliver over 90 percent of Ekiti State to Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, strengthening efforts by the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to break the ranks of the APC Governors Forum which is opposed to his Rainbow Coalition for the President’s reelection. Meanwhile, former governor of Rivers State, former Minister of Transportation, and the vice presidential candidate of the ADC in the forthcoming general election Rotimi Amaechi has said that he'll resign from office if Nigeria does not change after one year in office if his party is elected into office. On a sad note, veteran Nollywood actor and film executive, Olu Jacobs who passed on recently has been laid to rest in Lagos. Jacobs’ funeral service was held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at This Present House Church in Lekki, Lagos. The funeral brought together several members of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
