In this exclusive Studio Cribs tour, Franklin shares behind-the-scenes stories from working with Amy Winehouse on the legendary Back to Black album, recording Shakira, and spending a full year working with Lauryn Hill. He also reveals the real vocal chains used for Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill, including the Neumann U47, Telefunken ELA M 251, Avalon preamp, Neve preamp, LA-2A compressor, and UAD EMT 140 reverb. You’ll also hear the story of Drake’s private producer camp, which ran 24 hours a day for nine days, and see the professional equipment used inside one of Miami’s most impressive recording studios: an SSL Duality console, Dolby Atmos monitoring, Pro Tools, Neve preamps, 1176 compressors, Distressors, a two-track tape machine, and a console that once belonged to Frank Zappa. Franklin also explains what new audio engineers and studio interns really need to learn to build a successful career in the music industry. If you’re interested in music production, vocal recording, professional recording studios, audio engineering, Amy Winehouse, Back to Black, Drake, Shakira, or Lauryn Hill, this studio tour is for you. 00:00 Preview: Amy Winehouse, Drake, Shakira & Lauryn Hill 00:29 Inside Alacran Studios in Miami Beach 01:15 Luxury Artist Lounge & Studio Amenities 02:22 Podcast, Showcase & Live Streaming Room 04:00 The Famous Studio Bathroom & Sauna 04:39 88+ Celebrity Vocal Chains 06:23 Main Control Room, SSL Console & Dolby Atmos 07:07 Recording Gear Speed Round 07:41 The Voice of Winnie the Pooh 08:05 Franklin Socorro’s Audio Engineering Career 08:35 Franklin’s Favorite Vocal Chain 08:58 Recording Shakira 09:51 Drake’s Private 9-Day Recording Camp 10:41 Working With Amy Winehouse on Back to Black 11:41 Amy Winehouse’s Vocal Chain 11:56 Recording Lauryn Hill for an Entire Year 12:27 Lauryn Hill’s Vocal Chain 13:24 How Franklin Started Working With Amy Winehouse 14:46 Advice for Future Audio Engineers 15:54 Inside the Live Recording Room 16:53 Protecting Studio Equipment From Miami Humidity 17:35 How Much This Recording Studio Cost 17:48 Studio Microphone Collection 18:31 Studio Cribs Outro #AmyWinehouse #BackToBlack #RecordingStudio #MusicProduction #AudioEngineering #Drake #Shakira #LaurynHill #VocalChain #studiotour
