This is the second major rain event this year, and very importantly, lots of good flooding. For years, we've worked through drought and dust, carving earthworks with nothing but heavy equipment and a whole lot of persistence. Today I get to document the absolute joy of seeing this land soaking in water while our systems do exactly what they're designed to do. 1.33 inches of rain in one day, with about an inch falling in just 30 minutes — enough to cause serious sheeting and test every single water retention structure we've built. The results? Everything works exactly as designed. Terraces are pooling water right where the tree lines will go. Dams are backing up massive amounts of water with zero damage. Check dams are slowing flow and catching sediment. Dirt bathtubs are filling with clay and silt. The BDAs (Beaver Dam Analogs) are holding back incredible volumes of water. This is my first time in two years seeing flowing water on the ranch, and it's pure vindication. Every hour spent digging, every criticism about "holes in the ground," every doubt about whether these systems would work—this storm answered everything. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 👉 In case you missed the previous episode, here’s a shortcut:    • A hurricane hit my desert wasteland...   - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - #waterharvesting #desertrain #greeningthedesert
