The worst concussion advice I still hear? “Go sit in a dark room until you feel better.”
That is the outdated cave theory. Dark-room rest is not treatment.
In this video I walk through why early, individualized, subsymptom-threshold aerobic exercise is a better approach than hiding in the cave — and the 2021 multicenter trial that changed the conversation.
Leddy JJ, Master CL, Mannix R, et al. Early targeted heart rate aerobic exercise versus placebo stretching for sport-related concussion in adolescents: a randomized controlled trial. Lancet Child Adolesc Health. 2021;5(11):792-799. PMID: 34600629.
This is not a green light to return to contact sports. Progression still follows a graded, stepwise plan and requires medical clearance before full contact or competition.
This is not medical advice. Talk with a concussion specialist before starting any exercise program after a head injury.

If this helped you or a parent you know, share it. The cave theory is still being handed out — and it should not be.
