This week in our countdown to THE COMPLETE KUBRICK, Lee Unkrich — Academy Award-winning filmmaker and coauthor of Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” — discusses his lasting fascination with THE SHINING (1980) and shares why the auteur re-edited the film for its international release. Accompanied by a newly recorded optional commentary by Unkrich, THE COMPLETE KUBRICK brings the alternative version of this tour-de-force horror film to home video for the first time in the United States. Along with 4K restorations of both versions of the film (complete with both monaural and 5.1 surround soundtracks) and Unkrich’s new commentary on the international cut, THE COMPLETE KUBRICK opens up the director’s 1980 masterwork with: • Criterion’s new 4K restoration of Vivian Kubrick’s iconic documentary Making “The Shining”; • An additional audio commentary featuring Kubrick biographer John Baxter and Steadicam operator Garrett Brown; • Three archival documentaries on the film; • A documentary on cinematographer John Alcott; • A 2024 documentary short about the last surviving filming location from the film; • Interviews with composer Wendy Carlos and actor Scatman Crothers (who performs a song about Kubrick that he wrote on set); • “30 Impossible Shots” (1974), Garrett Brown’s demonstration of the revolutionary capabilities of the Steadicam; • And more! https://www.criterion.com/films/35285...
