On a dark shore, a woman stands alone and listens. Somewhere out on the black water, oars are striking in the night. Fog rises, the stars go out, and the shadow of a great eagle passes over the sea. Far away, gold flashes like fire on the waves, and then the sky breaks. When morning comes, she finds a small shard in the sand, still warm in her hand. They say the sea is salty because something still grinds at its bottom.
