Cooper Spur Oregon's Top Day Hike Mount Hood Oregon October 15, 2026 7.35 Miles 2819 Feet Elevation Gain 8488 Feet Maximum Elevation Forrest my roommate from college came over and hiked on Mount Hood for the first time. Forrest is an avid hiker, was the captain of the college wrestling team, an EMT, a school teacher, a fire chief, a rancher and still is a top level mountain bike racer. So I took him on my favorite hike on Mount Hood. I’ve been hiking this hike for over twenty years ever since my friend Don Sires who turned me on to this hike. A little history, Don Sires, Kathy my wife and I were on Cooper Spur the day before the Gnarl Ridge fire burned much of the forest around Tilly Jane In August of 2008. Today we had crazy good weather (61 degrees and 30mph winds…A bit windy). Its a tough hike with incredible views. Mount Hood at its best.
