A rainy Saturday in Ichikawa, Chiba — through red gates, from a temple to a shrine. From Shimosa-Nakayama Station to Nakayama Hokekyo-ji, a head temple of the Nichiren school that began here in 1260 with Nichiren's sermons. The Black Gate, the red main gate rebuilt in 1926, the five-story pagoda built in 1622, and the Founder's Hall raised in 1678 — the pagoda and the hall are both Important Cultural Properties. Then a little garden hidden among the houses. Umbrella up, on toward Moto-Yawata along a busy road in the rain. Yawata no Yabushirazu, a tiny bamboo grove across from Ichikawa City Hall. Legend says if you go in, you'll never come out. Katsushika Hachimangu Shrine, founded in the 890s: its vermilion gate from the late Edo period, and the Thousand-Trunk Ginkgo, a National Natural Monument. And the lights coming on in the drinking alleys near Moto-Yawata Station. No talking. Natural sound, English and Japanese captions. Filmed October 24, 2026. 4K.
