The first problem was that no register exists anywhere on earth. The US Coast Guard's recreational boating statistics — the most complete casualty database of its kind — code fourteen vessel types, and not one of them is catamaran. A 50-foot Lagoon that floods and turns over is filed identically to a Catalina 30. The UK accident investigation branch has no cruising catamaran in roughly 1,100 reports. Insurers publish nothing by hull type. Builders publish no production totals. So this video counts the wrecks instead, case by case, and the pattern that comes out is not the one the internet argues about.
